Walls of Time

Walls of the Time is an ongoing photographic series focusing on walls throughout Michigan. Walls hold many stories and history. These stories can be found in the degradation from harsh weather or from deterioration over many years. Growing up in a small town in the southwest part of Michigan, I wouldn’t have thought to give walls a second thought. However, after I moved to Detroit for college, I came out of my shell and wanted to explore the city. While exploring and observing the walls, I started to think about why the architects chose specific colors and materials. Why did they choose a blue wall with yellow railings? What made them choose brick? How did this random splash of color get here? And with that, I ask you, what stories and questions do you have about the walls in your own town? Or what stories can you glean from them?
